Welcome to the Open Sensemaking Communities project. This is where you will find research perspectives on the Knowledge Media Institute's contribution to the Open University's OpenLearn initiative. Openlearn is a large scale project (June'06-May'08), supported by the the Hewlett Foundation's Open Educational Resources (OER) programme, to release thousands of hours of the OU's distance learning resources for free access and modification by learners and educators.

The LabSpace is OpenLearn's experimental zone, supporting the open source dynamics of remixing and sharing OERs. LabSpace also hosts experimental learning resources, e-learning tools, and other groups with whom the OU is working on OERs. KMi's collaboration and knowledge mapping tools are integrated into the LabSpace to support these activities, and on this site you will find the design rationale, research orientation and news behind these tools.
