Compendium released Open Source
Simon Buckingham Shum
13.02.09

We are delighted to announce that the Compendium Java codebase is now released fully Open Source, under the LGPL license!

Up until now, for historical reasons tracing back to Compendium's roots in the US at NYNEX Science & Technology Labs, the code has been distributed under a more restrictive license. Although we have a few developers who have contributed to released code, we know the non-standard license has been off-putting to many others, and understandably. However, in an update to the agreement between Verizon and the Open University, we can now use a standard OS license.

So, our thanks to Verizon on behalf of the global Compendium community... and developers, come and get the code, and take Compendium in whatever direction you want!...
